Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast Source Codes Vanish

About a week ago we posted an article mentioning how Raven, the guys behind Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast, made the source codes for the two games open-source out of reverence for LucasArts demise. They kindly uploaded them onto Sourceforge.com and were then praised as gods for evermore, but something nefarious seems to have sprung up.

It appears that the Sourceforge files for Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast‘s code have been removed without a word from anyone. We are not sure if someone higher up the game industry food chain was unhappy with the open-source decision or if Raven just changed their minds, but the files are gone regardless.

If anybody knows if somebody managed to migrate the files elsewhere then please share this information with us in the comments below. We will keep you updated on any news that appears on the missing source codes.

I have the zipped up source files saved. I could upload them somewhere, but if they were taken down for legal reasons, I don’t know if I should.

If you believe it was for legal reasons than I can understand not doing it.
Hoping someone will make a press statement about this soon. Kind of low to announce putting up the source code then secretly removing it. Oh well. =/

Hey there, not to worry, some code was included that was in fact licensed and not supposed to be open sourced. It is believed they will fix this issue or remove said code and rehost it. Regardless, the source is still being ripped apart by many dedicated coders and such parts of the code that are not GPL will be replaced or removed.

Great news to hear. Looking forward to seeing all the new fan content that will be popping up. =)
